After little Northern Lights on the sky when I drove into the city for picking up my guests, then The Lady went quiet, so my guests was wondering if there was no Aurora to see ... so, I had to teach them little patience ... and when the dinner was served and in theirs stomach, her begun what she is good for and they got happy and active with theirs smart phones ...
A lot of moose along the roads out here now, so we went on moose safari both ways ;)

I could do it short and easy tonight by following all Aurora Guides towards Sommarøy, only 60 km west of the city, but I triple the driving distance for heading south towards the Magic island of Senja. Only because I don`t like the crowd and because I was afraid to not find a good spot for my dinner chase, since so many guides who was heading towards the same area.
But, it was quite hard to get in pics from my colleagues of Aurora already one hour after departure, while we was driving through heavy snow and fog ... but, then we found clear sky much earlier than planned ...
And when I heard it was get cloudy further north, then I felt I did an right decision when we had close to 100% clear sky and could enjoy Auroras all around ;)

Before tonight`s chase we was wondering to cancel or not, cause the strong wind they forecasted during the day time, and was worry about how long time it should last into the evening ... plus overcast all over ...
It was still quite windy when we arrived tonight`s location, and we saw only one star, but I decided to stop and wait, since the weather forecasts says better later ...
And then suddenly Lady Aurora shows up with bright Auroras through the thin cloud layer, and when she got stronger, then the clouds suddenly dissapear ... very good timing ;)
I think the guests can tell rest of tonight`s story;
"Gunnar nailed it! Our family of 7, three generations including my 79 year old dad, all rate this tour 10 out of 10!
It was on my dad's bucket list to see the Northern Lights, and this trip delivered. We booked a private tour so were picked up at our rental home right on time, in a fabulously comfortable spacious van. Gunnar found us a wonderful spot to enjoy the beach, nature, the mountain scenery was stunning, and for hours of gorgeous light show by a warm fire Gunnar built for us.
He put up with all our silly family antics the whole time as well. The fire along with his garden sourced tea really provided a hygge experience. The snow suits and boots Gunnar provided kept us so toasty and we were able to lay in the snow and just stare up at the sky as it lit up and danced around us.
Thank you Gunnar for all the photos you expertly took of our group (ones attached here are ours not Gunnar's!). Love this it is a must do - Rachel Rodriguez."

I think the best story from tonight`s chase are coming from some of my guests, in this lovely review on Google;
"Late November Northern Light chase. There are so many people doing this tour, plenty of cowboys to take your money, so we weren’t sure who to book to get a real experience, so we decided to go and ask Tourist Office, they recommended Gunnar.
Boy we weren’t disappointed, he knew exactly where to go, lit fire to keep us warm, had thermal suits, socks, boots, and hot drinks and tasty snacks.
We were pretty happy with what we had seen, but I could tell Gunnar wasn’t quite satisfied, so as we were driving back he was checking info, watching sky, and the all of a sudden he darted off the main road pulled up, we all jumped out and did we get the full experience.
I have never seen anything like it, all the colours, dancing, moving, bright as hell, its was an unbelievable moment, everyone on the bus was blown away with what Gunnar just pulled off. Could not recommend Gunnar more highly, a terrific night of Aurora chasing - John All."

It`s pity I didn`t saw it 5 mins before ... since it was dancing a lovely corona over the bus while we was driving on the return to the city, and there was no places to stop ... but, we got little of it when we finally found a parking spot.
It was a new tricky weather night ... was first thinking about a short chase out on the coast, but the weather changed ... again ... so we went into the country side little here and there, when I just had do stop for prepare the dinner for my guests ...
Lady Aurora was shy, but still all over ... and it was only 30% clear at our location, but sudeenly it cleared up ... all over, also out on the coast ...
I am very happy that we got the last show since it lifted the points from only 4 to 7.

I should change my driving plans this afternoon on the drive from Lyngen North to Senja ... and follow the clear weather further south ... but, I felt for settle down and make the dinner for my guests in the private apartment, before we drove out ... at that moment a change was`nt in my mind ...
And that`s pity ... since when we did the later drive further south where my colleagues was under clear sky and had a good Aurora show, we arrived 30 mins too late ... the clouds arrived ...
So, a long drive for nothing ... or, on our way back to Senja I suddenly saw a gap in the clouds and a bright Aurora ribbon who crossed the sky ... thanks for that one ;)

While we drove out from the city and all the way east to Skibotn the sky camera there showed totally clear sky, but when we arrived then also the clouds arrived, and was close to destroy a great view of the Northern Lights.
Since I should serve a dinner on tonight`s chase, and since the family for this private chase had a one year old baby with them too, I decided to gamble little, cause it was shelter from the wind in the forest ...
And while several another guides left the area Lady Aurora suddenly started what she`s good on; Intensive dancing in two colors, in a clear cloud hole towards the east.
I am glad I had enough ice in the stomach and didn`t rush away, since we probably missed tonight`s best show.
Later it got totally overcast, but we who known how Skibotndalen valley can be; it`s changed a lot, but Lady Aurora was shy rest of the evening ...

Tonight it was cloudy in Tromsø, so we decided to drive towards the coast. First we was planned to drive to Grøtfjord, but when we came to Ersfjorden we took a stop to see how it looks that way. While we stopped, we got the first NL stripes over us.
After taking some photos we decided to drive towards Sommarøy instead. On our way to Sommarøya we could se the Aurora over us, so we made a new stop. This time it was bigger, but still too much clouds to get really good pictures.
After 30 mins we drove to Sommarøya, and just when we stopped, we got a really good Aurora show.
We made a campfire and enjoyed tasty Lefse and drink hot black currant juice, while we took pictures. After two hours the lights faded out, so we drove 2 km further to see if we could see some Northern Lights on the north sky, and got some pictures with an other theme.
22:30 the guests was happy and was ready to return to the city.

The first plan was to drive south towards Bardu 180 km south, but the last weather forecast had changed to it better on the coast, so we headed towards Sommarøya 60 km west, but the weather forecast was wrong ... again ... totally overcast, so I decied to take a break with a camp fire and wait and see what happened with the clouds ...
The first hour it was 100% overcast, but after an hour it started to clear up little bit. We waited until 23:30, then we drove towards Kvaløyvågen, further north, to see if we could get a better sky there, and hopefully some lights there.
We found stars also there, but no Aurora ... 01:00 we returned back to the city ...

Did we missed a 10/10 Aurora show tonight, cause too much clouds ?
After last night perfect clear sky with close to no Aurora activity, it was going on a lot from the sun tonight, but it was quite overcast when we left the city ... so, it was much great Auroras we missed ...
I did a stop after only 20 mins driving since it was not certain how much we should see tonight cause quite tricky weather, so we got little moving Aurora in a clear stripe further north.
We stayed there only 10-15 mins since my goal was to come fast as possible to the Mikkelvika, 90 km north where the best weather forecast showed the best weather.
It was probably something great who was happening while we was driving, since we passed 7-8 buses, but that`s great ... less buses in front and higher chance to get one of the best spots in a area where probably most of the buses was heading tonight.
25 km before the planned destination the sky was good enough with a lot of stars, so we stopped and stayed rest of the evening in my Ice Fishing valley 65 km north of the city.
And we got several good shows of Lady Aurora, and then we returned super early ;)

Quite a lazy Aurora and laidback chase tonight ...
My guests had already seen Auroras three good nights in Kirkenes and onboard Hurtigruten coastal route on theirs voyage to Tromsø, so when we arrived Sommarøya island they didn`t wanted to stay out in the cold when the activity was so low ... so, I dropped them off at the bar at Sommarøy Arctic Hotel, while I went out in the silence for myself for observe and shoot some pics ...
1,5 hours later I picked them up and we returned to the mountains of Kvaløya island where I made a campfire for my guests, and during the hour stay there, they discovered a faint spike of Aurora ... after some good music moment around the campfire we went early back to the city ...

Second night in row we set the course towards Signaldalen valley. When we get there the weather was clear but no northern lights to see, so I made a campfire and served warm juice and a delicious Norwgian Lefse while we waiting. After about one hour we could see the first stripe, and after that we got several small stripes.
Around 11 pm we started to drive slowly back to Tromsø, but after a 20 mins driving, I saw a stripe, not so big, but it was right over our head so I decided to stop and let them take some pictures.
Meanwhile they were out at taking pictures of Aurora it exploded, so now it was all over us and started to dance!
A good end of the chase! We were back in Tromsø 2 am.
