April 2024
April 6th - Season End !
My chase night no. 2,012 since the beginning in 2006.
Welcome to Tromsø in September for join me in my 19. Aurora season !
- Guests / Country: 7 guests from South Korea, India and China.
- Weather Tromsø: Clear, incoming clouds.
- Destination / weather: Dividalen valley / clear.
- Aurora activity: 7/10.
- Aurora show: All over and little towards south, spikes, curls and little dancing curtains in 2 eye visible colors. A couple of faint coronas.
- Tour km: 275.
- Tour hrs: 8.
- Wildlife: One moose, but tracks in the snow of many ... 4 days before I met 19 (!) moose in the same valley.
My first plan was to stay on the coast for do a short one ... first since the weather forecast had forecasted three lovely nights with clear sky, but the weather forecast changed of course ... for the 2nd, I had a early flight south to Trondheim, where I will join a the international `Norwegian Travel Workshop` and needed to sleep little extra ...
But, my guests comes always first, and since we had to leave the coast and drive into the country side, I decided me for drive to an new location where I never has been before ... or, I have been several times in the valley, but it still have some hidden gems, and this bridge and landscape I discover four nights before when I was there on a private day trip just for my self.
We was the only group in the valley this night since it was already clear sky at the half way, after 70 km ...
It was a night of patience, since the Lady was quiet ... but, then the Aurora forecast came with a drop ... it should come 1,45 hour later ... oh yeah, there I killed my good night sleep ... (I got only 2,5 hours on my pillow this morning) ...
But, the Aurora show was good, and my guests was super happy ... that´s most important ;)
April 4th
- Guests / Country: 14 guests from Germany, Belgium, Italy, India, Taiwan, Australia, Canada and UK.
- Weather Tromsø: Clear.
- Destination / weather: Ersfjordbotn / Grøtfjord view point / Rekvikeidet / clear.
- Aurora activity: 9/10.
- Aurora show: All over and far far south, curls, spikes and three colors intense dancing curtains, visible for the naked eyes. Several coronas.
- Tour km: 105.
- Tour hrs: 6.
- Wildlife: 8-10 grouse.
Such a crazy beautiful Aurora show on blue sky ... it was too great on too bright sky, so it was difficult to take good pics with the camera ... just better to leave the camera and lie down in the snow and just enjoy it.
We started tonight`s chase with an sunset setting sightseeing to two locations with view of the mountains, fjords and oceam, with lovely sunset colors, before we took the final stop at Rekvikeidet mountain plateau, where we was alone, except some cars for locals who was out for skiing in the mountains.
But, the silence moment should soon get crappy ... since a 50 seats bus arrived, just after I had set camp fire ... too boring, I really loathe this big buses with too many people around ... too much people is crap pollution of the nature and silence, what I always try to give my guests ...
But, shit happens ... I runned further out in the snow for shoot my Aurora pics and movies.

How I am working out on my chases ?
I am planning the stops for getting the best foreground for me and my guests pictures ...
Of course, the weather and the Aurora activity can destroy that plan, but some nights it works great, like this night when I drove little further after we got clear sky, for getting just this picture.
For this night, the activity started on the opposite sky direction, but some hours later I got it ;)
On my FB page you`ll soon get a chance to see all pics from this night too >>
