Welcome Autumn storms with the tricky bad weather ...
Tonight all Aurora Guides in Tromsø went towards Finland, but the reports from the front was saying too cloudy ... so, the weather forecast was wrong again ...
So, then it was an easy choice when we got a message from the Brazilian Aurora Chaser @Marco Brotto who was located with his group in Salangen, 200 km south of the city with the message on a foreign Aurora group: "it`s partly clear here!"
It`s strange that not more of the another guides took this message serious, turned around and headed south instead ... but, as one of the most experienced Aurora Guides in the city it was the only choice, and we did it with success ... two of my good colleagues did the same, but they got only little of it, since they didn`t drove so far as me and my guests ...
My plan wasn´t to drive so far south, but the clouds and clear holes was moving from south towards north, so I decided to drive as far to we met the first gap, and that we did 140 km south of the city, in Bardufoss.
Went back to the city very late, but all my guests was happy for this extra effort ... yeah thanks, but this is my job ... thanks for your patience and your lovely company ;)

After 3x chases my guests wanted to have a sightseeing tour to Lyngen Alps, so we left the city already at 3 pm.
With a ferry ride we enter Lyngen Alps in beautful sunny weather and had a nice day of sightseeing along the fjords and mountains of Lyngen and in Signaldalen valley.
When the darkness fell down around 7 pm we went to the restaurant at Vollan Guesthouse for a better meal.
On the return we had darkness and begin the chase ... but, the Lady was quiet tonight, so after one hour we ended it and went back to the city.
An new tour idea grew up: This combo will be one of my new private tours, so welcome to join! Your choices will be a visit to the Lyngen Alps or the Magic island of Senja.

Tonight the weather in Tromsø and on the coast was bad, so since the weather forecast showed the best weather far east and into the Finnish Lapland, then I prepare my guests for a long drive.
Before we arrived the border the clouds begin to break up, and when we only was 15 km inside the border we had to stop since Aurora was active on the sky ...
After a great show we had to move again, since the clouds begin to cover the sky again.
And since none of my colleagues was further inside Finland than us, I just had to drive the extra miles for check if the weather forecast was right ... which it was`nt ... so, after the first show we didn`t got to see any more.
For my colleagues who went down in the valley towards Skibotn and the fjord, the conditions was the same all over: Totally overcast ... so, we begin to head back home after season longest drive so far ...

When I do a chase for the same guests over several nights I like to do different locations, but tonight we had to head the same direction like the night before, since the high cloud layer was coming fast from the south ...
So, same island; Ringvassøya ... passed my home, but choose to drive to an another fjord ... where we ended up by the river between Skogsfjordvatnet lake and the fjord ...
And lucky for us the weather forecast was little wrong, so the cloud layer was thin and we got to see many stars through it ... and therefore a much better display of Aurora that we first thought we should get.

70 km north in Dåfjord the sky was super clear, and just when I stopped the bus we had Aurora on the sky ... in a lovely combo together with the moon where them moth made reflection in the fjord.

And tonight Lady Aurora started super early, so we got a lovely colorful show on blue sky.
More activity was on the way, but at 11 pm my guests was happy, so we returned back to the city ... on my private chases the guests decided the time of return, and a early evening is totally ok for me.

It was only one way to go tonight; the Finnish Lapland, since the weather forecast showed 100% clear ... they also showed it should be better into Norway later, but the weather forecast was wrong, so after midnight the clouds came into our beautiful clear sky.
But, Lady Aurora had already give us a great show, where we also saw deep red Aurora with our naked eyes.
The best show of 3 on my first week into my 19. Aurora season.

By starting at 7 pm then we`ve about 3 hours before the sky is dark enough, so since it was heavy clouds over the islands, we headed instead towards south where I gave my guests several photo stops with lovely views towards mountains and fjords.
The final stop was at a beach I normally not stopping during the season since it`s too busy of the big buses, but tonight we was alone there ...
First we got a short glimpse of Aurora, but after a short break The Lady was really coming back ... so, by midnight wI returned to the city with a full bus of happy guests ;)
The forecast showed a huge drop, but it didn`t happen ... so that was fake news ...
September 4th
- Guests / Country: 8 guests from Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Argentina.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy / rain.
- Destination / weather: Sommarøy / part clear / changing clouds.
- Aurora activity: 0/10.
- Aurora show: No activity! Only a few very faint purple spikes which only the camera caught.
- Tour km: 175.
- Tour hrs: 7.
My 19. Aurora season started little tricky with heavy incoming clouds and rain ...
So, we headed north just for better climate away from the rain and relaxed for a moment on my own beach north of the city, before we returned as planned towards Sommarøy in SW.
The weather forecast was right and just after we arrived the clouds begins to break up, but The Lady was shy ... so, a couple of times the camera caught some faint purple spikes ... that`s all.
On the return I decided to drive the shortest way back, since I gave my guests a nice 50% discount for chase no. 2 ... but, I should think little longer by following my colleague who drove the long return, since he got a new clear hole in the clouds and a short, but a great colorful show while we was driving in the cloudy area ... little further north.
When we returned to the city, the sky was also clear there, but then tonight`s show was over ...
