It was snowing all the way to the Finnish border ...
Since I was running a Private Aurora Chase Dinner, I am not stopping before I have the perfect clear sky, so when the first spots I was thinking about already was occupied, then we just had to drive longer ...
When we finally stopped the activity was quiet, but while I set up my kitchen and lit the camp fire, it suddenly started, with some bright stripes towards south with a hint of pink in it ... and the pink night contiuned ...
The most important for me in this freezing cold environment was to lit the fire, so I missed out the first show with my camera, but it came more so in a nice combo while I made the dinner live over the fire in front of my guests, I shot pics under and after the meal, and got some really nice one of the whole setting.
On a private chase the guests decide the return, so just before 11 pm we went back towards the border and the city ... and when we cam back down to the fjord, then we wind and heavy snow picked up ...
November 29th
- Guests / Country: 10 guests from Germany, India and China.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy / rain.
- Destination / weather: Finnish border / part clear / haze.
- Aurora activity: 4/10, but the first Pink dancing show was a 9/10.
- Aurora show: It started with a lovely KABOOM Pink Aurora dancing show, then it was all over even far south with spikes, curls and curtains.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Bright green and faint pink.
- Tour km: 310.
- Tour hrs: 7.
I was first thinking about Dividalen valley for be in the silence out with my guests, but when we was on the way to the cross road, I register that our private camera there was out of order, so I couldn´t confirm if the weather forecast was right ... and at the same time the cameras in Skibotn showed lovely clear sky.
So, then the road was given ... but, before we arrived the clouds had already arrived, so we contiuned towards the Finnish border with overcast all over ...
It was a huge a caravan of buses who went towards Finnish Lapland, so for get more control over the road side into the moose district, I let all the buses leave us, so I could use the big lights on the bus ... at the same time, I had more control over the sky, instead of being in a queue with too much car lights.
And that was just perfect, since when we arrived the border and all buses drove straight into Finland, I stopped since I saw a stripe of lights, which looks strange to be light from the moon ... and I had right, in a gap in the clouds it was Northern Lights.
So, my guests came out of the bus just in time, and could see and explore of loovely dancing Aurora in high speed in green and pink colors, visible for the naked eyes.
And we got lucky by just wait little more, since the sky cleared more and more up from east, where we had a lovely curtains towards the south sky ... and then even the big dipper got visible on the north sky, and then later more towards south and then west ...
So, I set camp fire and served my guests hot drinks and snacks, but warned them about a early return, since bad weather was on the way ... so around 10 pm the sky got totally overcast, and on the return we got quite a bit strong wind and a little snowstorm ...
But, before we left and since we was only 200 meter from the border, we went across the border so they could shoot pics of the Suomi EU sign.
Actually this was a night I was wondering to cancel the night before, since then they forecasted strong wind up to 37 ms, but of experiennce it`s smart to wait to the next day for taking that decision, since you can`t really trust a weather forecast for the Arctic.
So, at noon the weather forecast was still showing the strong wind, but much less with only 22 ms, so there we went ;)

November 26th

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 15 guests from Switzerland, Germany, Israel, Taiwan, Singapore, China and USA.
- Weather Tromsø: Clear earlier in the day, cloudy around departure time.
- Destination / weather: Balsfjord & Storfjord / openings with shifting cloud layers.
- Aurora activity: 8/10.
- Aurora show: Early two vertical lines from northwest to southeast. Later activity in all directions with curls, dancing movements and a bit of pink.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Green, and some pink during the stronger activity.
- Tour km: 200.
- Tour hrs: 7.
- Wildlife: Two reindeers, in the middle of main road.
Before we even reached the first location, we had a very sudden and close encounter with two reindeers. They were standing on the opposite driving lane, just around a bend in the dark. It was quite close, and we had to slow down quickly. Fortunately, they did not move into our lane, which would have been very unfortunate. We managed to pass them safely, and they remained standing in the road as we continued. A very exciting and slightly stressful start, but everything went fine.
Since Tromsø clouded over around departure time, I decided to head south towards Balsfjord and Storfjord where the forecast showed openings. Balsfjord had a good opening when we arrived, and already some Aurora coming in from the northwest — two clear vertical lines stretching towards the southeast. We stopped by the sea, took some portraits, and shortly after the Aurora dropped for a bit more than an hour.
We used that quiet period to move to the next location and take a short toilet break. Later on, the activity increased again, this time more or less in every direction. The lights came mainly from the north and overhead with curls, some dancing and fast movements, and even a little pink. A fantastic show overall — not the most vivid or intense possible, but strong activity with good movement and colour.
Around 21:00 the clouds covered the sky completely. We had been lucky with the timing and already caught the best part of the show. We stayed out hoping for another opening and made a fire at my home place at Kvesmenes, by the Lyngen fjord, shared some stories, local snacks and drinks while waiting.
By late evening the roads became slippery and icy as the weather turned mild. Apart from that, it was a good evening with great guests, strong aurora activity, and nice scenery.
November 25th

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 2 guests from Israel.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy.
- Destination / weather: Finnish border / Skibotndalen valley / mixed clouds, haze, some gaps.
- Aurora activity: 2/10.
- Aurora show: A couple of faint stripes east–west, later some haze in the south, faint arc, weak curling through high clouds.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Hazy green, faint lines, faint arc.
- Tour km: 310.
- Tour hrs: 9.
We drove straight to the Finnish border where we got two faint lines from the east, later shifting south before splitting into a few more curling lines through a hazy top cloud layer. We moved up and down the Skibotndalen valley searching for clearer sky, stopping whenever stars appeared, before continuing after the gaps closed. We went far down the valley before returning and trying areas between Skibotn and the border, where the sky cleared up, but no Aurora showed.
We headed back towards Tromsø, finding several good openings on the way without any activity, and stopped again under a stable gap in Lavangsdalen valley, where an excavator and wheel loader stood nearby. There we caught a little Northern Lights together with a beautiful star sky, seeing Peliades, Orion Belt and Jupiter above the machinery.
A good campfire by the border and great conversation. Weather was challenging despite an extremely strong Aurora forecast, but we still had gaps much of the night, even though the powerful predicted activity never appeared. The sky cams we have at our disposal showed that the full-power solar storm didn’t hit — maybe tomorrow. Back in Tromsø around 03:00.
November 24th

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 2 guests from UK.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy.
- Destination / weather: Storfjord / Finnish border / first hazy with high clouds, later clear with low clouds north and south.
- Aurora activity: 8/10.
- Aurora show: Early strong show at Hatteng in Storfjord with curling lines west–east reflecting on the partially frozen Lyngenfjord; faint green in the east, red and green vertical strikes, curling lines west–east during the move towards better sky; faint pulsing under the Big Dipper; curling lines low in the north; similar shapes in the south under Pleiades and through Orion toward Jupiter; splitting into two beautiful shapes; corona with purple hints overhead; whole-sky green aurora; streaking and fast movements in the north.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Strong green, faint red, curling lines, vertical strikes, corona, whole-sky glow, streaking in the north.
- Tour km: 310.
- Tour hrs: 8,5.
We started early at Hatteng in Storfjord with a strong Aurora show, reflecting beautifully on the partly frozen Lyngen fjord., with curling lines moved west to east.
As the activity calmed down, we moved our search for even better sky. Faint green appeared in the east, with red and green vertical strikes and curling lines. Small pulsing Auroras appeared under the Big Dipper, developing into curling lines low in the north. As the north faded, similar shapes appeared in the south under Pleiades and through Orion toward Jupiter, splitting into two beautiful shapes. Later, the sky exploded into a Corona with hints of purple overhead, followed by a whole-sky green Aurora and streaking fast movements in the north.
After a big fire by the border in –22°C, we packed up, satisfied and cold, and headed back towards Tromsø.
Near one of my favourite mountains, we found a good opening and got to see nice Aurora in the south under a beautiful starry sky. Back in the city at 02:30 after an eight-and-a-half-hour chase. Fantastic night with beautiful people, beautiful Aurora, lovely weather — very cold, but fabulous.
November 23rd

- Guests / Country: 5 guests from India and Italy.
- Weather Tromsø: Clear.
- Destination / weather: Dåfjord / clear / part clear / overcast.
- Aurora activity: 7/10.
- Aurora show: All over and far south, several coronas, spikes, curls and little dancing curtains.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Little green and faint pink, re; some of my guests.
- Tour km: 140.
- Tour hrs: 5,5.
Tonight we had two choices of where to drive ... stay on the coast with the risk of incoming clouds closer to midnight, or drive into the country side where the temperatures could drop down to minus 25 ...
I choose the first option, since the activity had already started at 2 pm, so I hoped for a early show ... but, also because I haven`t felt so well the last nights ... that`s the life be working "in a kinder garden, with people from all around the world" ... so, we are going on a auto pilot by being little sick in seven months ... and when it`s over and the bus is parked we get knocked into bed ...
So, my plan worked ... we got a early Aurora show, but the clouds arrived earlier than I thought, already at 9.30 pm, so we got one of the best show for tonight between the clouds, but before we had several nice coronas.
And then the best activity was over, so on our drive back to the city, I checked the sky several times ... from the bus and via some of our private sky cameras along the route, but nothing worth to stop for, so we was early back in the city ... just before midnight ;)
From 2 am the Lady Aurora waked up again and created probably a very good Aurora show which didn`t stop, and it was activity the whole night and day until the next evening ...
November 22nd

- Guests / Country: 12 guests from India, Taiwan, China and Australia.
- Weather Tromsø: Clear.
- Destination / weather: Tromvik / Grøtfjord / clear.
- Aurora activity: 8/10.
- Aurora show: All over and far south, curls, spikes and dancing curtains, and a couple of small coronas.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Bright green and little pink.
- Tour km: 105.
- Tour hrs: 7.
- Wildlife: 7+9+2 reindeers, where the first seven was sleeping on the road.
Tonight it was only one way to drive ... to the coast since the sky was perfectly clear, and it has been a long time since I was chasing on the coast, but it started with fog / frost smoke on the west side of Tromsø island.
Along the roads towards the most exciting area on the coast; Grøtfjord, we met several groups of reindeers, where the first seven slept on the road, at the side so we could pass ... probably they was very tired to walk around in the mountains in the very deep snow.
Too much snow was it also for us, when I begin to dig in it at one of my favorite location, for making me a parking for the bus, so I gave up and continued ... It`s pity that they are not cleaning the parking spots better, since the rental car tourists, they do the dangerous choice and park in the middle of the roads ...
We continued towards Rekvik and found a perfect place to stay with lovely snowy mountains around, but it was freezing cold, which I also felt ...
I set up the camp fire so my guests could keep warm, and I needed also to start the bus much earlier than normal, cause of the freezing cold temperatures.
My guests was most of the time inside the bus, except two Aussies, which keep me company outdoors ;) and for the rest, I had to "wake them up" several times when the better Aurora was starting ...
Around 11 pm I decided to do a back drive, before the next forecasted show started, so we did a short stop at a local toilet house, and before we arrived the planned location, we just had to do a stop since the whole sky exploted with tonight`s best show ...
November 21st

- Guests / Country: 13 guests from Germany, Taiwan, Australia, Kuwait, New Zealand and Argentina.
- Weather Tromsø: Part clear.
- Destination / weather: Signaldalen valley / clear.
- Aurora activity: 5/10.
- Aurora show: All over and towards south, curls, spikes and little dancing curtains.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Faint green.
- Tour km: 210.
- Tour hrs: 6.
Tonight we had three choices where we could drive, and I could do it short and easy by staying on the coast, but since the weather forecast showed beautiful clear sky the next two nights on the coast, then I decided to drive into the country side.
First idea was Dividalen valley 140 km SE, but after a stop at the gas station I changed my mind and did a change, from a valley with 20 minus below, to only 15 minus, and only 105 km away ... it`s also better roads this direction.
Most of the guides choose the shortest location and stopped around 50 km from the city, but there it was also chaos along the roads, re; a report I got from one of my colleagues who stopped there.
So, since I am selling silence and like to be out only us for the chase, then I drove little longer ... then I could give my guests what l try to do every night; Silence and only us at the location ;)
The activity was nice, and my guests got happy of what they saw, but it could be so much better if it got little brighter, and then it was faded out, so I decided to return early around 11 pm, and hoped something more should happens on our way back ...
But, it didn`t happens before 25 mins after I had dropped off my last guests ... on my drive back home ... please check the video on my Insta & FB; Moose & Aurora !
November 20th

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 6 guests from Germany, Taiwan and Argentina.
- Weather Tromsø: Shifting, a weather front first, then clearing.
- Destination / weather: Skarsfjord / Bjørnskar / part clear / haze / clear.
- Aurora activity: 8/10.
- Aurora show: Arcs west–east, pillars in the south, corona overhead, dancing in the southwest.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Green, violet, and earlier also red; plus greyish tones.
- Tour km: 135.
- Tour hrs: 7.
- Wildlife: One female reindeer walking alone and one calf walking alone (not together), plus one grouse.
- Space show: A couple of shooting stars.
We drove out towards NW to Skarsfjord, on the west side of Ringvassøya island. The coastal side had the best openings and the safest weather. We arrived early, walked in through deep snow, and already at that point we got an early aurora display with clear structures.
We made a fire and waited while a weather system passed. When it opened up again, we had a red horizon to the northeast and some dancing in the east.
More tour buses arrived at the same spot, and the weather started changing. The Aurora activity at that moment looked like it would stay calm for about the same amount of time we needed to reach the next optimal location. If we acted quickly, we could get into a better position before the activity increased again. We tracked the Aurora continuously throughout the evening, and for micro-climate pockets we rely on our network of local collaborators who feed us intel about the sky conditions.
We moved further north and away from the crowds, and reached a quiet parking place on the northeastern side of Ringvassøya. Just as we stopped, the Aurora picked up. Strong arcs stretched from west to east, we got pillars in the southern sky, a clear corona, and dancing in the southwest. Colours were strong: green, violet, and earlier also red, with greyish tones visible too. The Northern Lights was clearly visible to the naked eye — movement, speed, and shifting tones.
It was a beautiful evening with exciting activity, and great fun with proper coastal chasing.
Jupiter was bright, we saw a couple of shooting stars, and the Milky Way was visible overhead.
Later in the night it became overcast and Tromsø stayed covered for a while, but as expected, it cleared late in the night.
November 19th

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 2 guests from USA.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy.
- Destination / weather: Finnish border / Kilpisjärvi / clear.
- Aurora activity: 4/10.
- Aurora show: Several stripes across, curls, spikes and curtains.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Faint green.
- Tour km: 330.
- Tour hrs: 8,5.
We left Tromsø at 18:00 with two guests from the USA. The sky over the city was mostly cloudy, so I decided not to gamble and drove straight for the most reliable spot — near my Sámi friend’s little village close to the Finnish border.
After a brief stop in Nordkjosbotn, we continued south-east. The drive was smooth, and the clouds cleared gradually as we approached Kilpisjärvi, 10 km into Finnish Lapland. By the time we arrived around 20:45, the sky was crystal clear.
At a very private, secluded parking spot, away from light and the crowds, the lights started in the north-east, slowly building into a calm but layered display. Colors were subtle but beautiful, slight purple-red hues, green shifting to yellow ...
The Aurora drifted mostly from east to west in the northern part of the sky. The star field was incredible — crisp, clear, and full of countless stars, with a few shooting stars passing by.
The atmosphere was magical in minus 22°C ... it was cold, but with good winter gear and a large fire, we managed comfortably. The location gave us total silence, complete darkness, and space to enjoy the show without distractions.
The combination of clear skies, dancing auroras, and bright stars made for an amazing, peaceful evening. Everyone was mesmerized, quietly taking it all in.
November 17th

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 8 guests from Norway, Taiwan and USA.
- Weather Tromsø: Overcast / heavy snowing.
- Destination / weather: Hatteng / Finnish border / part clear / crystal clear / cloudy.
- Aurora activity: 3/10.
- Aurora show: Mostly green arcs and lines, multiple west–east structures (up to 5 layers; 3 strong ones). Slow to moderate movement.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Green and shapes visible, though not vivid.
- Tour km: 335.
- Tour hrs: 8,5.
- Wildlife: One fox and four reindeers.
- Space show: Several nice fireballs and shooting stars — mostly seen by me.
The night started with heavy snowfall by leaving Tromsø, so heading inland was the only logical choice. Our first stop at Hatteng, east of the Lyngen Alps, gave us a partially open sky, but no activity, and it was clear we needed better conditions.
So we continued towards the border, and that decision paid off. While many others gambled on the coast, we drove straight into a stretch of almost crystal clear sky — easily the best window of the night. Perfect timing as the Aurora calmed down just when the clouds moved in.
We set up by the road leading to my Sámi friend’s house near the border — quiet, private, and with a good fire going. The guests made the night easy: the Norwegians brought solid humor, the Americans great dialogue, and the Taiwanese were quiet but warm and clearly enjoying themselves.
The Northern Lights didn’t throw the full powder tonight, but it gave us plenty of structure: several arcs stretching from west to east, sometimes up to five layers, with three of them strong enough to stand out. Movement was steady but not fast — green lines and shapes clearly visible to the eye, just not intense.
Later, around 23:30–00:30, we moved into the Signaldalen–Otertinden area. There we caught one elegant, faint arc — a west–east line that didn’t look like much to the naked eye but was beautiful on camera with the Milky Way and a few shooting stars crossing the frame.
Solar wind stayed between 400–550 km/s. Density was low and Bz kept flipping, but when it dipped properly, we got our activity — just not explosive. Still a good, clean night.
Driving home, the Aurora teased us with a brief burst of dancing — of course when everyone was asleep and with no chance to stop — but that’s how it goes. A final little wave to end the tour.
All in all, a great evening with a good group of guests, the right weather calls, and the original Aurora Chase spirit.
Thanks for joining the chase.
November 16th

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 5 guests from Germany, Austria and Taiwan.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy.
- Destination / weather: Saarikoski, Tunturi Lapland, Finland — mostly cloudy with occasional openings in the lower and medium cloud layers.
- Aurora activity: 6/10.
- Aurora show: A strong corona-type movement straight above through gaps, fast and powerful activity visible despite high cloud layer.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Sky turned green, snow turned green; clear fast movements visible through the high clouds.
- Tour km: 400.
- Tour hrs: 9,5.
We crossed into Finland and headed towards Saarikoski in Tunturi Lapland. When we arrived, the sky was still mostly cloudy, with shifting gaps coming and going. We waited and moved between Saarikoski and the border, searching for a clearer opening. Between these two areas we found good visibility through the lower and middle cloud layers, and that is where the aurora finally appeared properly.
A strong Aurora Corona movement came straight above us — fast, powerful and clearly visible to the naked eye even though the high cloud layer remained. The entire sky took on a green tone, and the snow reflected the colour as well. It was not optimal viewing because of the high clouds, and we could not see the full structure of the show, but the activity itself was clearly strong.
Since the main part of the show was short in duration and partly blocked by the upper clouds, the overall rating for the night is 6/10, mainly due to how active and fast the Aurora was during the visible moments.
A long tour with 400 km of driving and 9.5 hours, difficult weather conditions, but still a successful chase with strong Aurora during the openings we managed to catch.

The worst start ever on a chase ...
5 pm: I should start from my home, 40 km north of the city, for drive in to Tromsø for pick up my guests at theirs AirBnb at 6 pm, but the minibus was totally stuck in the snow on my own driveway, after the easy parking after last nights chase, when I just drove straight into the 40 cm snow who had landed, since I was too tired to begin to remove it ... and the combo of much snow and melting temps on the ground is a bad combo ...
6.45 pm: Finally I could pick up my guests, and we could begin the chase ... but, the drive out from the city was very slow, since two snow plough was making a huge queue, and the speed limit was around 40 km/h ...
7.25 pm: 25 km away from the city, the road was blocked after a accident between one truck and two cars, one rental car ... so, we was again stuck ... and then of course this evening best Aurora show started ...
7.55 pm: Finally the cars was moved away and we could continue our chase ... I was planned a stop for watch the Aurora on the sky, but then the clouds arrived, so we continued straight towards east where the sky was better ...
9 pm: Got little Aurora on the sky between the clouds in Balsfjord ... and then we made a short stop at the gas station for bathroom and snacks shopping, just in time before three other minibuses arrived ...
9.45 pm: Finally we could stop and I could relax after this little stressful start of the chase ... it was activity all over the sky, also towards south, but it was faint and in a mix with clouds and haze ... so, I set a camp fire and served my guests hot drinks and snacks, and had a lovely chat around the fire ...
Now and then we got some more Aurora activity, and got also a lot of nice pics, so my guests was happy, and that`s the most important for me ;)
Since the late and delayed start, I had no hurry to leave, so I decided to stay to 00.30 since it was still activity on the south sky, and quite often that`s a sign of something more and better ...
November 14th

- Guests / Country: 10 guests from Germany, Malta, Philippines, UK and USA.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy / snow.
- Destination / weather: Finnish border / part clear / overcast / snow.
- Aurora activity: 3/10.
- Aurora show: A couple of faint ark low on the north sky, spikes and curtains. Two colors on camera.
- Visible for the naked eyes: White.
- Tour km: 310.
- Tour hrs: 8.
I was first thinking about some miles into Finnish Lapland, since the weather forecast showed the best conditions there, but when we arrived the border it was already good enough with lovely clear sky, with clouds only low on the north-west sky.
So, I took the chance to stay there, and hoped the clouds shouldn`t come in too early ...
It was only a very faint ark low on the north sky, but after an hour it got little better so my guests could see it with the naked eyes too, and some of them got excited of the little we got.
After serving hot drink and snacks around the campfire, then it began to snow and few mins later we lost the last stars, so then it was only one thing to do; head back to the city and home.
Heavy snowfall on the return made the drive little slowly, and longer in time ...
November 12th

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 11 guests from Japan, Canada, Malaysia, Australia, UK and USA.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy / snow.
- Destination / weather: Malangen / Sommarøy / Kattfjordeidet / overcast / gaps in the clouds / snow.
- Aurora activity: 2/10.
- Aurora show: Very strong activity, but difficult to observe due to thick clouds. Early: faint, hidden aurora behind clouds and occasionally between small gaps. Very late at night: a pulsating green ray/arc glowing through the cloud layer. No clear-sky display despite the strong activity happening above the clouds.
- Visible for the naked eyes: A green pulsating arc extending west–east above us.
- Tour km: 285.
- Tour hrs: 9,5.
We then pushed on toward Sommarøy, hoping to intercept a gap moving east. By the time we arrived most other cars had already given up. Just as we were about to continue, a message came in from one of the few Norwegian guides—there was light just behind us near Sommarøy. We turned around and managed to catch a brief glimpse of activity before the clouds swallowed it again.
The chase continued into the late night. We followed the shifting break in the sky toward Kattfjord, where we finally found our moment: a quiet valley surrounded by mountains, empty except for our group. Above us, through the thin cloud layer, a pulsating green arc stretched across the sky from west to east—our clearest sighting of the night.
Despite the lack of clear-sky views and few photo opportunities, the evening was filled with great people, good humor, beautiful scenery, and the excitement of strong aurora activity hiding just above the clouds. Not the wildest display— but still a memorable and rewarding chase
November 10th

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 2 guests from Belgium.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy.
- Destination / weather: Skibotn / Finnish border / part clear.
- Aurora activity: 7/10.
- Aurora show: Increasing through the evening, from soft activity at Skibotn to strong display at the Finnish spot. Fast movements, clear polling structures, with pink, purple, and red tones.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Bright green and faint red.
- Tour km: 430.
- Tour hrs: 9.
- Space show: Several shooting stars and one fireball.
We started from Tromsø under full overcast and drove east, searching for better sky. The first break came around Skibotn, with small openings and first Aurora signs. Continued toward the frozen lake Galko where the view opened more and the activity increased.
Still, we wanted clearer sky, so we crossed into Finland and stopped at one of my secret locations. There the sky opened completely, and we got a fantastic show — strong activity, fast movements, clear polling, and colours from green to pink, purple and red.
Temperature dropped to –12 °C, with several shooting stars and one bright fireball. Returned to Tromsø around 3 a.m.
November 9th

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 2 guests from Brasil.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy / snow.
- Destination / weather: Finnish Lapland +70 km / clear / part clear.
- Aurora activity: 8/10.
- Aurora show: Started faint but with visible pink and red hues at the top. Faded for a short while as expected, then picked up strongly later in the night. Fast curls in the north, high arcs above us, quick movements and bright colours — a fantastic show with both speed and colour variations.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Strong green with bright pink and red tones.
- Tour km: 450.
- Tour hrs: 8,5.
- Space show: A couple of shooting stars.
Cloudy and snowy in Tromsø, so we headed east for Finland, chasing clearer skies. On the way we had heavy snow, sometimes dense, sometimes open. Our guests from Brazil were skeptical at first, but we trusted the forecast and continued east.
The sky gradually cleared as we entered Finland, and the Aurora started faint with some pink and red tones, then faded and returned much stronger later. Fast curls, high arcs, and vivid movements filled the northern sky, with strong green and bright pink hues clearly visible to the eye.
At best, the sky was up to 90 % clear, later around 60–70 %. Temperature down to –3 °C, a few shooting stars, half moon, and great Arctic atmosphere.
Returned to Tromsø around 2:30 a.m. after about 450 km of travel.

- Tour km: 370.
- Tour hrs: 9.
- Wildlife: Four reindeers.
Cloudy and challenging conditions again, so we headed east towards Finland. We had a small and unexpected opening already at Balsfjord around 19:00, with red hues and faint green aurora.
Continued to my friend Sami’s place just before the Finnish border, where we got a beautiful arc stretching northwest to northeast before clouds returned. Then we drove deeper into Finland to Keino, where the sky opened and gave us a very nice show — soft movements, beautiful shapes, and even a clear dragon pattern in the aurora. Windy but good visibility, temperature down to –4.5 °C, feeling colder due to wind and humidity. Four reindeer passed by the road on the way.
A long night, about 450 km total, with a 4 / 10 aurora — not the strongest, but a beautiful and rewarding chase.

We missed this evening first show while we was driving, and I am not making unessary stops when I first decide me for Finnish Lapland ... it was probably great, but my colleagues saw it only in some gaps in the clouds.
My body was knocked after last two nights with too long drives and late returns home, or maybe we should say early; arrived my home 5 am ... so, then it was nice that we could make our final stop at Kilpis Lake, where it was some clouds ... which dissapered later.
And then we began the most important game under the sky of the Northern Lights; Patience ...
Except some faint spikes here and there the sky was very quiet ... and that`s little strange since the solar speed was on around 800 km/s ... so, we had a lovely moment out in the silence by the lake ...
And then suddenly out from nothing, low on the south sky it started what I though should happens, but it was impossible to predict when ...
A great colorful curtains rised up from the horizon, which suddenly began to dance crazy in several colors.
And the youngest guest on the chase tonight, 19 year old Kobe from USA celebraite it with a bath in the very cold Kilpis Lake ... of course he was prepared and had his swim suit in his rucksack.
Such a great guy who had parked his studies and went out for a long world around travel, just by himself, which made a lovely atmosphere in the group all night long.
Thanks Kobe, and good luck with your travels, nowadays into Africa ;)

Tonight it was only one way to go; Head far east and into Finnish Lapland, but so far we didn`t came, since when we was down in the valley 35 km before the border, it suddenly says KABOOM and the Lady was showing her crazy good performance with intense PINK dancing visible for the naked eyes ...
An little thank you to the rental car tourists who was `kissing my ass` and was following us too tight behind us, so I stopped at a very tiny parking slot, where they didn`t had space to stop ... or, they stopped and got confirmed that they followed us ... but, when I opening the door was telling them to go to he ... then they continued and left our area ;)
At the same moment I saw on one of. our `private Aurora Cams` that the south sky became to be active with little pink, so I had to quickly turn into an other parking spot for get this with us ...
And after continue the drive I had to take an second stop since the Lady wasn`t ready ;)
But, we got this first crazy show (please check videos on my Insta) in between the clouds, and I wanted to have much better clear sky, so we continued straight into Finnish Lapland, but we didn`t had to drive too far for find the perfect sky where we stayed rest of the evening ...
Returned to the city after 4-5 more crazy PINK dancing Aurora shows with a group of very happy guests ... and two of them was little extra happy ... since an engagment was happening under the sky of Lady Aurora`s performance ... pics will soon be visible on GG FB page ...

I did it again !!
Begin to be quite mad on myself some nights, when I break my main rule no. 1: `Follow always your got feeling` !
My first plan was The Magic island of Senja, since I knew the next two nights had to go towards the border and into Finnish Lapland ... but, then I got unsure since the weather forecast further south had changed to it worst ... but, again; It`s always smart to trust the first weather forecast ...
After thinking a lot, I decided to drive to Finland, since snow it`s better than rain to wait in ... but, when we arrived the border it was 4+ degrees, rain and cloudy ... and the same far inside the border ... at the same time, I checked the sky cameras for the region around south island of Senja, which showed lovely clear sky ...
So, next time Gunnar; Follow your got feeling !!
When we arrived Naimakka, +60 km inside the border it was not funny weather conditions, but suddenly we got a gap in the clouds towards south, and Lady Aurora gave us little dancing ... faint, but my guests got excited ;)
Then I decided to stay little too long there, since when we returned and got lovely clear sky again after 30 mins driving, we had just missed a lovely Pink Aurora show ...
So, then I told my guests; `Now we`re staying here until we get something more, and we got it` ... not the greatest show, but it was lovely to get some beautiful clear sky, after my earlier mistake of choosing the wrong way ...
If we had choose Senja, then we should been totally alone and out in the silence which I sell, and love ;)
November 3rd

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 3 guests from Denmark
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy and gloomy.
- Destination / weather: Dåfjord, Ringvassøya / part clear.
- Aurora activity: 7/10.

- Visible for the naked eyes: Bright green.
- Tour km: 200.

Cloudy and gloomy skies around Tromsø, so we headed northwest toward the coast. Passing Gunnar’s house the sky started to open, and we continued further onto Ringvassøya, away from lights and under clearer sky.
Out by Dåfjord we had a really beautiful Aurora show — fast movements, nice structure, and good variety with spikes, poles, and several lines forming and fading. Some snow and ice on the ground, but otherwise good driving and conditions. We saw a few shooting stars and a couple of fireballs. Returned to Tromsø around 1 a.m. after about 200 km of travel.
November 1st

- Aurora Chase with Guide Andreas.
- Guests / Country: 2 guests from Norway.
- Weather Tromsø: Part cloudy.
- Destination / weather: Kattfjordeidet / Grøtfjord / Tromvik / Rekvik / Partly cloudy with clear openings.
- Aurora activity: 7/10.
- Aurora show: Beautiful Aurora with graceful movement and forms shifting from south to north and back again, calm but vivid throughout the evening.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Green.
- Tour km: 120.
- Tour hrs: 6.
We started at Kattfjordeidet where the first Aurora appeared already around 17:00. Together with the guests we followed the road through Grøtfjord and Tromvik, ending at Rekvik and Rekvikeidet.
It was a beautiful night with calm weather, open skies, and Aurora visible through most of the evening. The lights moved gracefully across the fjords with soft curves and shifting shapes, creating fantastic spots and beautiful moments for both viewing and photography. Everything aligned perfectly — clear openings, great company, and stunning northern lights over the Tromsø coast.
