Good show with great clear sky on the island Ringvassøya 70 km north, and there was Aurora activity as soon we jumped out of the bus, but not too strong in the beginning ... gradually it became stronger.
After a short while an armada of other buses swamped us, so we did a backtrack to GuideGunnar´s private beach for the remainder of the evening, and got a good sighting here also.
The group very happy about the show and started to get cold, and the activity died down ...
I said we could stay longer, but it's going to be quiet in the sky for at least a few hours. So we decided to take an earlier night and everyone was happy about the show, and a earlier return.

With incoming clouds from the coast I decided to drive into the country side, to an beautiful valley close to the Swedish border, 140 km SE, but so far we didn`t came ... simple cause the activity was too good, so we had to make a stop 45 km SE of the city ...
We had already missed something good on our drive out, but since this was my guest chase no. 5, and he had already got the great show on February 13th and 14th, I decided to not stop before we came to a good spot, where I could prepare tonight`s dinner; A Reindeer stew - while my only guest was down on the beach for shooting pictures.
When he got back to the camp fire, he was happy, since he had got his good pics for the night, so I prepared the dinner ove rthe open fire, while we had a good chat about traveling worldwide.
After dinner and dessert he was happy, so we returned back to the city super early, but that`s okey since tonight`s activity only last from 5 to 8 pm.
February 15th - Private Aurora Chase

- Guests / Country: 8 guests from China.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy / haze.
- Destination / weather: Dåfjord x2 locations / haze / gaps in clouds.

- Aurora show: Mostly towards south, spikes, curls, and a small corona - bathing in haze, so we missed a lot.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Faint white.
- Tour km: 145.
- Tour hrs: 5.
One hour delayed from the city, cause a late incoming flight for two of the guests in the group of eight, so we missed the first show, and then the haze begin to cover the sky little too fast, so there was only one way to go; As far north we could come on my island, Ringvassøya.
We got little of the first show only 15 mins north of the city, but then I heard from a colleague that Dåfjord, 70 km north was okey ... so, we drove to this location, but all places was taken ... even the road was close to blocked since too many guide buses was parking in middle of the road ... that`s not good !!
So, I decided to drive to the end of the road, where we had some lights from some houses, but since most of the activity was on the south sky, the lights didn`t bothering us, so we stayed there.
And we got a nice show which was bathing in the haze ...
After a couple of good portions of the Northern Lights, I decided to drive to an other location where I could make a camp fire and serve my guests some hot drinks and snacks ... but the drive got short, since one guide was on the way to leave from the best location in this fjord, so we stopped there.
After serving the guests they was happy with what they had got, so we returned early ... but, that`s okey for me, since the clouds already covered the sky ... and I am happy to come home earlier ;)
February 12th

After a stop down in the valley waiting for a forecasted show which didn`t showed up we contiuned up to the Finnish border, where it was lovely 25 minus, but it was "warmer" since it was no wind ... down in the valley it was 16 minus and wind, which was freezing cold ...
Tonight`s weather forecast was very strange ... as normal ... since it was first showing overcast all over, so deep into Finnish Lapland was the first plan ... but, it changed of course, so tonight we could stay on the coast too ...
But, I had already decided me for driving east so there we went ... but, it was enough to drive to the border, and I got surprised when one of the main stops for the big buses was empty, so we stopped there.
It was some other buses on the border too, but they left around 11 pm, so then we got totally silence which was beautiful.
Why they left I didn`t understood, since the activity was started short time after, and when I was planned to leave by midnight, the show got even better ...
When we left little later I had to make a new stop after only 15 mins driving, since the last stripe on the south sky exploted ... and then 45 mins later when my guests was in a toilet queue at 01.30 am, an new show came on the south sky ...

We could easy stay on the coast tonight, but I decided to leave the crowdy areas on the coast and search for a quiet place with totally silence ... since that`s what I am selling and whats my guests want.
But, at our first stop after only 25 km, we had to join the crowds, since the activity was too good for just being driving further ...
Then we contiuned to the fjord west of the Lyngen Alps, where I checked out a new area in my 20 Aurora season, and after one place was taken, the next two wasn`t good enough for me, but then I found a tiny parking spots where it was easy to reach the beach ... after I did some exersice by making a good path down in the deep snow.
It was just perfect, with no wind so we got lovely reflection in the fjord of the bright and dancing Northern Lights.

While many of my colleagues went 60 km SW to Sommarøy, I decided to drive into the country side for find silence for my guests, since they also liked to stay away from the crowds ...
So, I went to the east side of the Lyngen Alps, where we was totally alone in this lovely valley with our own `Toblerone Mountain` above us ...
As soon we arrived it was lovely Aurora activity all over us, but with very good timing together with Lady Aurora, then she took a break while I served the dinner for my guests.
And during the dessert, she showed up with tonight`s grande finale performance ...

A long drive and a late chase ... for nothing ! Or, a lovely moment on the river ice between two countries.
The best forecasted weather forecast was in Finland, but on our way it was also partly clear down in Skibotn valley in Norway, so we could actually spend the evening there too ... but, I had a dream to be on a very lovely location at the Swedish- / Finnish border; Out on the river ice !
It`s normally a very busy location, so I haven`t been there for several years, so we drove down for check it out ... and it was close to empty, so I decided to spend the night there ;)
Of course, it was coming more guides later, but they parked on the land in Finland, so except two rental cars we was alone on the ice with the bus parked on the border.
I thought it should be a great Aurora night, since something huge was on the way from the sun, and it was something big last night, but it went out to be a night with a lot of patience and waiting ... but, our Aurora forecast was showing nothing ... just after 11 pm we got a small Bz minus, so it should come something before midnight ...
It came finally, but not visible for the naked eyes, only on the camera; with a faint green stripe across the sky, and a purple spike on the NE sky ...
A short moment I was thinking about to do a chase the next night for my guests which haven`t seen so much of Lady Aurora, but after three long drives to Finnish Lapland I was knocked ... but, that`s pity; Since it was partly clear sky on the coast and good activity early in the evening ...
February 4th

- Guests / Country: 4 guests from Slovenia and China.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy / rain.
- Destination / weather: Finnish Lapland +65 km / huge gap / haze / overcast.
- Aurora activity: 3/10.
- Aurora show: A couple of stripes across the sky, curls and spikes.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Faint white.
- Tour km: 440.
- Tour hrs: 8.
- Wildlife: One fox and three moose - one of them in middle of the road, so very close to a crash.
Just in time we found a empty place to stay and there was activity on the sky when we jumped out of the bus ... but, it didn`t last long, since incoming clouds from the north covered the huge gap towards south ...
But, tonight I was spending too much time on thinking ... which way should we drive ?
I got confused ... since one of the city`s best "weather guide"; Markus in Greenlander suddenly choosed to drive to the coast, north on my island, Ringvassøya, and I was on the way towards Finland, since that was the only location I found clear sky ...
So, after 70 km at the gas station in Nordkjosbotn, I spend too much time of thinking, checking the weather forecast and talked with colleagues ... and then I did several stop for checking the sky without any positive results ...
Rule no. 1: "When you decide you for a location, don`t stop, just drive !!"
On the way back the greatest show started around midnight, and yes, this was the beginning of the forecasted storm, Spaceweather.com had forecasted, so they wrote this;
"THE CME HAS ARRIVED: A CME hit Earth's magnetic field today, Feb. 4th. The sharp impact at 1530 UTC jolted magnetometer needles around the world. At the USGS monitoring station in Boulder, Colorado, the jolt was 16 nT--significant, but not enough to cause a major geomagnetic storm. Instead, minor (G1) to moderate (G2) storms are possible in the hours ahead. This CME probably came from the X8-class solar flare on Feb 1st."
So, since it looks like it will contiuned the next night, and since my guests only got a little glimpse of Lady Aurora tonight, I decided to give them my special discount, which I give away sometimes ...
February 3rd

- Guests / Country: 4 guests from China.
- Weather Tromsø: Cloudy.
- Destination / weather: Kilpisjärvi, Finland / clear / fog.

- Aurora show: An ark low on the north sky with some spikes, and then just a faint stripe across the sky.
- Visible for the naked eyes: Faint white.
- Tour km: 330.
- Tour hrs: 8.
February started as January; Very quiet the first three nights ... but, something bigger are on the way from the sun ...
We went straight to Finland without any stops, straight into clear sky, but at the first stop the fog played with us.
So, when we got visit of four other guide buses at our quiet spot, after seeing little Aurora, we left and found a quiet spot in middle of Kilpisjärvi village.
The sky was beautiful clear without fog, but not much more activity, but my guests was happy with the silence out in the snowy landscape in 22 minus degrees ...
